Sturdivant's research team performs traditional fundamental "bottoms up" company and industry analysis in addition to having a team dedicated to quantitative portfolio strategy.

Sturdivant's core approach to fundamental company analysis is to identify and understand attractive companies and industries in which to invest. Occasionally we have an opportunity to leverage local networks within our Mid Atlantic footprint and bring a regionally specific idea to the forefront.

Our research process dictates that we take the perspective of our institutional clients: that of a 'prudent' long term owner. The process of evaluating companies under coverage involves a qualitative assessment of management and its competitive threats and opportunities. We tie this assessment to a company's financial performance by way of their financial statements. The last step is to make a risk adjusted assessment of value. Typically this assessment is based upon a minimum of two methods, free cash flow generation typically serving as the primary methodology.
